What is FRSSiteMgr?

FRSSiteMgr is a software application to help you manage your web site or web sites.

When you first create your web site, there is a lot of information to keep track of with regard to registering your domain name. Then, if you need to get some space on a server to host your web site, the web hosting company will flood you with all sorts of details about how to connect to their server, etc. If you use two different companies for these two services, then you need to communicate information from one to the other. Once it is all set up, you will be good to go. But, over the years, this information tends to get lost.

That is where FRSSiteMgr comes in. It provides data entry fields for all the key information, which you can enter if so desired. All fields are optional. If you enter the renewal dates, the application will show you in the "Overview" tab when the renewals are due. It is easy to forget to pay for your renewal, and then your web site is down/gone for several days.

How Do I Get Started?

When you start FRSSiteMgr for the first time, it will kick off a search on your computer's disk drive looking for what would be considered typical home page files. It will show what it finds so that you can select which ones are your web sites that you want to manage within FRSSiteMgr. If you prefer, you can cancel this search and just manually set up your web site or web sites (this is especially the case if you don't maintain your web site's files on your computer, for example, you have an outside contractor maintain your web site files for you).

First off, your data is never uploaded to any remote server; your data is only kept on your computer. When you enter the settings, they are stored in a binary data file in the application's installation directory. The text is encrypted. You can, optionally, password-protect access to FRSSiteMgr via the "Settings | Password..." menu command. Between these two measures, it is nearly impossible for anyone to find out what your settings are (a dedicated hacker might still find a way in). Be sure to remember your password to FRSSiteMgr, if set, because there is no way to reset it. Finally, be sure to password-protect your computer, and set your screensaver to require a password to gain access to your computer again. Do not leave your computer unattended, and, if you do, be sure that access to it requires a password.

A Word About Future Versions

We currently have a 5-version release plan in place for FRSSiteMgr. Currently, we have released the first version; four more will follow. The application will eventually let you manage your whole web site, except for the actual editing of your web site files; you can continue to use your normal HTML-based file editor for that. However, after you have created your web site's HTML-based files and your image and video files for the site, then you switch to using FRSSiteMgr to handle everything else for you. Due to the time and complexity of the planned application, it will require the gradual roll-out of a total of five versions before, what we consider to be, the core functionality for this application is there. In the meantime, however, you can go ahead and use the current functionality of the application to already start helping you with managing your web site or web sites. Please note that these five releases are not pie-in-the-sky ideals, because we already have most of the code and functionality in place; it just requires more polishing and thorough testing (as may have noted at the bottom of these pages, the copyright dates for FRSSiteMgr starts with 2015).

How Do I Get the Latest Version?

You can always download FRSSiteMgr directly via the "Download" tab above. However, FRSSiteMgr automatically checks to see if a new version has been released each time you run it, if you have enabled that option and your computer has an active Internet connection. When a new version has been found, it will be downloaded, and you will be notified of the automatic upgrade when you close the application. Making sure you are always up-to-date is both free and easy!

status bar upgrade download

When an upgrade is being downloaded, a download icon appears in the status bar (shown here on the right). Note that you can close the application at any time. If an upgrade was in the process of being downloaded, the application will stop and try again the next time you run it.

status bar upgrade ready

When the download has completed, the icon will change to one showing a sun (as shown here on the right). At that point the application will be upgraded when you close it.

If for some reason you wish to disable automatic upgrading, click on the "Settings | Automatic Application Upgrade" menu command to turn OFF that feature. The state of the check mark to the left of that menu command indicates whether or not FRSSiteMgr checks for new upgrades. If you turn that option ON again, FRSSiteMgr will immediately check the Fourth Ray Software server to see if a new version is available, and download it if there is one.

For How Long Can I Use the Free Version?

status bar trial period days remaining

FRSSiteMgr comes with a one-time, 21-day trial period during which you can use the full functionality of the application for free. There are no restrictions during that time period. When the free trial period is over, you must purchase a license to continue to use the application (click on the "Buy" tab above). All of the data you entered during the free trial period will still be there after you have paid for your license. There is no separate download required after you have purchased your license. The status bar, as shown here on the right, indicates how many days you have remaining in your free trial period.

How Do I Enable the Paid-for Version?

When you have paid for a license for FRSSiteMgr, you will receive your unique serial number via e-mail. You can enter the serial number via the "FRSSiteMgr | Enter Serial Number..." menu command. You will also see this window when you start the application and you have allowed your trial period to expire. You need to enter the serial number you received from us. We recommend copying and then pasting the serial number, as it is easy to mistype. When ready, press the OK button to have FRSSiteMgr verify the serial number. If it is valid, the application will switch to a "paid-for" version, which you can verify by clicking on the "FRSSiteMgr | About..." menu command.
