This is the fourth time we've set up at the Rosenberg Museum for the April RailFest show. We were able to set up the basic layout and do some maintenance work on the layout the Saturday before, so the morning of the show all we needed to do was the backdrops and the skirting, and then place the structures, trees, and trains. We were done in plenty of time, so here Don, Rusty, and Bob were just relaxing before the crowds.
This gave Peter the opportunity to take some good close-up photos of Rusty's recent eBay find, a scratchbuilt drover's caboose. However, when we were trying to run it, we discovered that the trucks had hi-rail wheels on it, which made it incompatible with our track.
The show was open from 11am to 5pm. It was our opinion that the crowds were larger than any previous years. These pictures were taken early on, because later it just got too busy to take out the camera.
The Houston S Gaugers are always set up in the building on the left, which is at the far west side of the museum's property. They had lots of entertainment, eateries, and, of course, the large G-scale layout at the far east side of the property.
The farm scene is always a crowd-pleaser, but all those tiny details are also subject to "grabby" hands. In the afternoon we got 20+mph wind gusts, and a lot of those details got blown away and needed to be rescued. The yellow sign by the lunch stand actually took a tumble and turned itself back into a "kit".
Bob's freight train passes by in the background while a gentleman is placing an order for lunch. The museum's property is right on the BNSF and UP mainline, so we experienced a similar sensation in the real world as this scene shows as the many freight trains came by all throughout the day.
